Plus Box. Commissioned piece.
The text I carved and gold-painted around this oak box is a back-translation (I assumed the original story would have had Latin text) from the English text used in the famous story, The Peddlar of Swaffham:
“Under me doth lie, one richer far than I.”
Most convenient for the box, which is a lovely prop for the telling of this tale, was a translation with just four words. Hence: HIC SUBIACET PLUS PECUNIAE (kindly translated for me by Classics scholar and pedigree musician / composer Graham Preskett).
